2011 Chardonnay - "One for the Books"
With 100% barrel fermentation in all new French oak, this complex full-bodied Chardonnay is just the ticket for all those hankering for a multi-talented white. An intricate style that will develop all of the much sought after qualities this variety can provide. Golden tones with creamy integrated qualities after careful cellaring will repay your patience ten-fold. But if it is freshness you're after give it a whirl now and see what you think.

Among the Vines
Starting slightly earlier than expected this year with good vine vigour and clean quality fruit coming off. Quantity is a bit on the lean side but you can only play the cards you are dealt. Our first pick was on 31st January 2012 with all the family on deck and an excellent result was achieved. The weather has been interesting to say the least but we have still maintained adequate moisture in the soil, and so on with the show.

Bright emerald green. Deep brooding nose of green beans, moss and riper green banana. The sweetness of flavour belies the herbaceous aromas. Complex flavours of green almond, chicory and mint. Lots of flavour but with only subtle bitterness and pepper. A good oil where complex olive flavours are needed but you don't want the oil to overpower.

Cellar Door
Hugo Wines was thrilled to be presented with the "Best Cellar Door in the McLaren Vale Region" award for 2011 at the annual McLaren Vale Cellar Door Awards Night in November. This award is conferred by independent judges from the tourism industry who make their assessments anonymously over a period of approximately 5 months. Congratulations also to Liz who was a finalist in the Madec McLaren Vale 2011 Outstanding Cellar Door Person Award.
