DID YOU GO TO HUGO'S?
Summer Newsletter 2009/10
Welcome everyone to the summer season at Hugo Wines.
The vines are looking particularly healthy and the rain we have recorded is making for one of the most optimistic seasons for many years. Canopy growth is vigorous but controlled, and we are managing to keep other non-required growth (weeds!) under control. There are no pests and diseases to report and our preventative spray program is as usual, very effective.
As a result of several cellar door inquiries we have made an effort to contact other wine interested folk in the north west of the country. Their access to quality wine is restricted, so to this end we have assembled the "North West Pack", as an introduction to Hugo Wines. This pack is available to all our customers along with two special 6-packs, the contents of which are detailed in the enclosed brochure.
To defray freight costs after the recent price rise, we are now offering a "Capped Freight" rate of $10.00 per dozen
(12 X 750ml) anywhere is Australia. Insurance of up to $250.00 per case is included.
Freight on orders of less than one case will be quoted as required.
2009 Royal Adelaide Wine Show -- Section 4 -- Wine of Provenance Hugo Wines is pleased to recount that their label (not a particular vintage) was judged a "finalist" in this class. The class comprises 3 wines of the same label, one of current vintage, one at least 5 years older and one at least 10 years older -- judged as a group. The provenance attributes will reflect both "place" and winemaker "thumbprint". Intrinsic quality and trueness to style are the judging attributes.
New Releases
2009 Unwooded Chardonnay
First of the Hugo Wines 2009 Vintage releases. An approachable, food friendly, dry white with an element of surprise.
A small percentage of material for this wine has been encouraged through "Malolactic" fermentation and added back to generate a component of complexity in the style.
2008 Grenache/Shiraz
Do you eat any food using a tomato based sauce? This is the wine for you. An amazing fruit driven style, with plenty of flavour, no aggressive tannins and especially "food friendly".
2006 Reserve Shiraz
A classy, buxom, full flavoured red, fashioned in the style that Hugo Reserve consumers have come to expect. Will continue to develop for up to ten years, conservatively. Waves of flavour wash over the palate and are savoured at leisure.
2009 Extra Virgin Olive Oil
At it's peppery, grassy, green banana best, is now available at cellar door and by mail order.
At the coal face
We have had some wonderful surprise visits from long standing customers of late.
Cellar Door compatriots that have been in contact over the years, resulting from an initial visit or phone call and have kept in touch through the Phone/Mail Orders. Making themselves known to us, recounting tasting visits and renewing acquaintances. These are truly the most heartening of experiences and we sincerely appreciate the interest and continued support our friends at cellar door afford us.
We take this opportunity to wish everyone best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Cheers,
John & Liz Hugo
